Details:
1. Tuesday, 2/23 vigil at Creech AFB, 3:30 to 5:00
Drone strikes controlled by crews at Creech continue to kill countless civilians and any hope for peace in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. In fact, such attacks are worsening. So many articles report on civilian deaths and the occasional intended assassination (didn't that use to be a shameful word?) that it is hard to keep updating our resource page on drones.
If you want to carpool with us, we'll leave 1420 W. Bartlett Ave. about 2:30 pm. Best to let us know you're coming so we'll look for you. Let us know if you want to be notified when we impromptu vigil at Creech, the NTS or in Las Vegas.

2.  Wednesday, 2/24, 7:00 Film Screening: The People Speak
Using dramatic and musical performances of the letters, diaries and speeches of everyday Americans, the documentary feature film THE PEOPLE SPEAK gives voice to those who spoke up for social change throughout U.S. history, forging a nation from the bottom up with their insistence on equality and justice.

Narrated by acclaimed historian Howard Zinn, who just passed away, and based on his best-selling books, A People's History of the United States and, with Anthony Arnove, Voices of a People's History, THE PEOPLE SPEAK illustrates the relevance of these passionate historical moments to our society today and reminds us never to take liberty for granted.

Location: 1420 W. Bartlett Ave., 89106, just east of MLK Blvd. and 5 blocks north of Lake Mead Blvd. in the historic "West Side." Film screenings are in the Pace e Bene house to the rear of the courtyard, past the Peace Pole.

3. Tuesday, 3/2, 7:00 Film Screening Death and Taxes
Produced by the National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee, twenty-eight people offer their motivations for
and methods of resisting the war machine with their tax money. This tightly paced 30-minute film introduces viewers to war tax refusal and redirecting tax dollars to peace, with music by Sharon Jones and the DapKings, Antibalas, Rude Mechanical Orchestra, and First Strike Theatre's version of "Don't Pay Taxes" by Charlie King. Is anything worth a tangle with the IRS? You bet! This year's edition of the annual "Pie Chart" analysis of the federal budget co-produced by NWTRCC and the War Resisters League will be on hand, as will copies of the dvd and other tax resistance materials will be available.

Location: 1420 W. Bartlett Ave., 89106, just east of MLK Blvd. and 5 blocks north of Lake Mead Blvd. in the historic "West Side." Film screenings are in the Pace e Bene house to the rear of the courtyard, past the Peace Pole.

4. Saturday, 3/20, 11:30 am to 2:00 pm: Empty Bowl Luncheon and Auction Benefit for Las Vegas Catholic Worker, helping to feed the hungry in Las Vegas (Bowls courtesy of the Nevada Clay Guild)
Green Valley High School Cafeteria
460 Arroyo Grande Blvd. (just North of Warm Springs Rd.) Henderson
Adults: $15   Children 12 & under: $12
Each spring since 2000, Nevada Clay Guild members and friends have donated hand-made ceramic bowls for the Las Vegas Catholic Worker Empty Bowl Benefit. People are invited to choose their own unique bowl and enjoy a luncheon of soup and bread. Many people buy multiple bowls for gifts. It is a great family event with live music and fun for kids.

5. Monday, 3/29 to Monday, 4/5 NDE's annual Sacred Peace Walk
We can't list all of the activities that are part of the Sacred Peace Walk here. I am pleased by the participation in the walk this year by some very deep, long-term activists, including NDE co-founder Br. David Buer ofm, Fr. Steve Kelly sj, and Priestess and Poet, T. Thorn Coyle. Local artists and musicians Abbi Spinner McBride and Joshua Levin will also collaborate to help us remain powerfully uplifted with devotional song and rhythm. More details and background are on the Peace Walk page and the Peace Walk Schedule page. WE NEED LOCAL HELPERS AND FINANCIAL SPONSORSHIP OF WALKERS! Special, advance gratitude to the Las Vegas Catholic Worker community and Candace Ross of the Sekhmet Temple in Cactus Springs. Contact the office to plug in!
